Going through some dusty mission archives last week, I found a note on some old committee meeting notes that Prince Paul of Yugoslavia visited Kijabe in 1942 and donated 500/- to the work of Africa Inland Mission. Prince Paul of Yugoslavia? Some quick internet research revealed that Prince Paul, the Regent of Yugoslavia during World War II, had been caught between expansionist Hitler and the Allies, who wanted to use Yugoslavia to stop Hitler. When Prince Paul tried to stay neutral, he was removed from leadership and taken to Kenya where he and his immediate family spent three years under house arrest. During this time he apparently visited Kijabe and made a donation, which was split between the Theodora Hospital, the Moffat Memorial Bible Institute and evangelistic work. We plan to do a bit more research and run an article on Prince Paul and the Kenya connection in a future issue of Old Africa
